MERTON OF THE MOVIES - A NEW MUSICAL COMEDY

Posted by: davidnyc 09:45 am EST 11/24/14

Hello ATC-ers –

Yes, I guess you would call me a “lurker’ – is that right? One who, for many years, constantly reads what’s on this board -- many times throughout the day -- but never posts. And in this case, I also admit that I’m an outright “shill” - But here I go with an actual post:

I’ve written the book for a new musical comedy, “Merton of the Movies,” with music and lyrics by Doug Katsaros. We have a website Mertonofthemovies.com where you can learn more about our show. Abingdon Theatre Company is presenting a Benefit Concert Presentation of the show on Monday, December 8 at 7PM. The cast is just terrific: AJ Shively as “Merton” with Loni Ackerman, Joel Briel, Tony Castellanos, Laura Daniel, Janine DiVita, Lara Hayhurst, Patrick John Moran, Jonathan Randell Silver and Martin Van Treuren. The Musical Director is Jeffrey Lodin.

There are about 30 seats left and even though it’s a Benefit, the tickets are reasonable ($30 and under). You can get tickets at abingdontheatre.org.

If any of you come, please do come up and introduce yourself to me --- would love to meet some ATC-ers.

There. Now I’ve posted. Whew! That wasn’t so bad after all!

Donald Brenner

Donald(not David, right?)welcome, thank you for the information and all best wishes for the success of your show.
And I have two questions:
Is this the same book and score that was done a couple of years ago on the East Side with Josh Grisetti?
And, is it just a wild coincidence that your one-night benefit is exactly one week after the(considerably more expensive)one-night Roundabout benefit of "Merton" the Kaufman & Connelly play with Jim Parsons?
