Posted by: BillEadie 07:08 pm EST 11/26/14

Diversionary Theatre, San Diego's LGBT theatre company, has welcomed Matt Morrow as its new Executive Artistic Director and announced productions for the first six months of 2015.

Mr. Morrow previously served as Associate Artistic Director of Pittsburgh's City Theatre Company and as a freelance director, working often in New York. He is currently developing Jennifer Haley’s THEY CALL HER FROGGY with A.C.T. in San Francisco and the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles. He earned a degree in directing from Carnegie Mellon University.

Prior to Mr. Morrow's arrival, Diversionary was being managed by its staff under the direction of volunteer board members. Mr. Morrow replaces John Alexander, who resigned in October 2013.

Diversionary will stage two productions in the first six months of 2015, along with three productions in its Cabaret series.

The mainstage productions will be Christopher Durang's Baby With the Bathwater, and William Finn and James Lapine's A New Brain. Baby With the Bathwater runs February 26 - March 29 and will be directed by local actor Andrew Oswald. A New Brain runs May 21 - June 21 and will be directed by ion Theatre Associate Artistic Director Kim Strassburger.

The cabaret series productions will be the third installment of local choreographer Michael Mizerany's Hot Guys Dancing, running January 2 - 11; The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode, running April 2 - 19; and The Silence of the Clams, running April 23 - May 3.

According to reports, the company plans to return to a July - June season for 2015-16; that season will be planned by Mr. Morrow.
