NEW - YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU - Talkin' Broadway's Review

Matthew Murray takes another look at You Can’t Take It With You:

It’s rarely a plus for a theatrical production to lose fireworks, but that occurrence has given a comfortable nudge to You Can’t Take It With You. When Scott Ellis’s revival of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s Pulitzer Prize–winning 1936 comedy opened in September, it was as awash in desperation as talent, determined to wring laughs out of you by any means necessary except laser-focused honesty. As a result, it didn’t land most of the humor it attempted, and instead played as a contemporarily over-the-top valentine to a bygone age and attitude of free-spiritedness than a sincere depiction of members of a New York family who care only about being true to themselves. . . .
