Orestes returns home from exile upon learning that his mother, Clytemnestra, has murdered his father, King Agamemnon, and placed her lover on the throne of Argos. Orestes seeks out his sister, Electra, and together they embark on a plan to seek bloody justice for his father. A dramatic family story that shows how violence begets violence, The Libations Bearers, written by Aeschylus, the father of tragedy, is the second play in the historic Orestia trilogy. Fri-Sat Feb 27-28 - PUBLIC ENEMY 2.0 W/ original rhythm section of Public Enemy & DJ Lord.

Strong Songs. Meaningful Movements. Better Mindsets. These are the phrases that capture the focus for this new branch on the iconic tree of PE. Jahi's task is two-fold. One is to take select songs from the PE catalog and cover them or reVisit them.
Two is to create new songs over new production and classic PE-Bomb Squad tracks to bring new consciousness, culture and spirit to Hip Hop worldwide. With original members of Public Enemy like DJ Lord-turntables, Davy DMX on Bass, T-Bone on Drums, and Khari Wynn on guitar, PE 2.0 over the next 5 years will become the new core unit of Public Enemy.

Sun, Feb 22 3pm $28 Holly Hoffman with Mike Wofford, Anthony Wilson, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton

Holly Hofmann spent evenings at age five playing jazz standards on a flutophone with her father, a jazz guitarist. It was an auspicious beginning for the woman who, after years of studying classical music would find satisfying partnerships with renowned jazzmen Ray Brown, Frank Wess, Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron and many of other top names in the music. She brings with her an all-star band featuring Mike Wofford on piano, the incredible Anthony Wilson in guitar, and amazing duo of John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton on drums.

MULATU ASTATKE

Known as the father of Ethiopean Jazz, Mulatu Astatke was born in the western Ethiopian city of Jimma. He was musically trained in London, New York City, and Boston where he combined his jazz and Latin music interests with traditional Ethiopian music. Astatke led his band while playing vibraphone and conga drums—instruments that he introduced into Ethiopian popular music—as well as other percussion instruments, keyboards and organ.

PILC, MOUTIN, HOENIG

After 2 decades playing together, Jean-Michel Pilc, François Moutin and Ari Hoenig have developed a language entirely their own. What happens on the stage goes beyond innovation, originality, virtuosity and energy. There is a telepathic chemistry, magic, and an emotional connection between these 3 musicians which is very unique. It is a conversation, a trip, and a world in itself. Jazz has produced lots of great trios, but this one has a place all its own in the history of the piano-bass-drums idiom.
