"Odd statement at the end that if our nonprofits were more adventurous they might stage something like "London Assurance." Roundabout did that very play on Broadway not that many years ago." They did it in spring 1997, almost 20 years ago. Given that this year alone we'll have seen revivals of Color Purple and Side Show, not to mention new productions of Hedwig and Violet and Last Five Years, all of which came along more recently than that, his suggestion isn't so crazy. In any case, London Assurance is hardly a bankable title, and I believe he's basing his comments on the National Theatre production from a few years back, which got rave reviews and had terrific buzz, but which unlike One Man Two Guvnors or Wolf Hall wasn't deemed a good bet for a commercial transfer.
