Sf opera is doing Sweeney Todd this fall.

I guess showboat was so successful that they are doing another Broadway show. Maybe we'll get phantom AT the opera house in the future!

These are actually chosen years in advance, so SHOWBOAT's run didn't have much of an effect. SWEENEY was locked-in and cast 2-3 years ago.

It is rarely produced anywhere. I guess the part is difficult for sopranos.

But the house of usher two one acts might get me to the opera house in the fall.

You right. It is a difficult role for sopranos. I saw a production of it at the Met years ago and even the sopranos had a difficult time singing the one aria. It has a beautiful opera score.

Looking forward to this. I saw the Portland Opera Company do a production of the Sondheim work about 8 years ago with Karen Morrow.
