"But today producers probably feel it is good publicity and in the best interest of the show to allow their stars time off to shine on the red carpet." That's understandable, except that all (or almost all) of the movie-or-TV-star-driven shows have limited runs -- very limited, in some cases --so any positive effect on the box office is probably also going to be very limited.
