This spring, NYU SKIRBALL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (Michael Harrington, Executive Director) is proud to present Gob Squad’s WESTERN SOCIETY, in association with The Public Theater and part of NYU Skirball’s Visions + Voices Global Performance Series. WESTERN SOCIETY will open on February 18, 2015 and run through February 22, 2015. Tickets are available now at www.nyuskirball.org.
WESTERN SOCIETY presents a portrait of civilization in the 21st century. Inspired by a real video of an unknown family’s mundane party – the least watched video on YouTube - Gob Squad invites the audience to join them as they bring the video to life, diving deep in to a western home and the human spirit. Together with the audience - and the help of technology, champagne, and karaoke - the Gob Squad explores who they are and who we are, and maybe most importantly, why we are.
Always on the hunt for beauty in the midst of the mundane, the playful and ultra-intelligent Berlin and Nottingham-based Gob Squad creates provocative and interactive performances where theatre meets art, media and real life. Last seen at The Public Theater, Gob Squad's Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good) won the 2012 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.
Gob Squad’s WESTERN SOCIETY is the first production in NYU Skirball’s Visions + Voices Global Performance Series, now in its third year, with a focus on Germany. Continuing their mission to showcase and support diverse and eclectic talent from around the world, all while cultivating audiences for live performance through deeper engagement opportunities, Visions + Voices: Germany will feature productions from three of Germany’s premiere contemporary theatre companies: Gob Squad’s WESTERN SOCIETY, She She Pop’s SCHUBLADEN and Rimini Protokoll’s REMOTE NEW YORK.
Tickets for WESTERN SOCIETY are now on-sale and and may be purchased online at www.nyuskirball.org or in person at the NYU Skirball Center Box Office: Tuesday-Saturday, 12:00–6:00 P.M. The NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts is located at 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square, New York, New York 10012.
