I'd say that Manhattan Theatre Club not scheduling a performance for Oscar Sunday suggests that they believe it's better to let the show go dark for a day than to run it without Gyllenhaal. That's not always the case--when Jessica Chastain was doing THE HEIRESS, the producers kept it running with her understudy going on when she went to the Golden Globes (which she won) and SAG (lost) with ZERO DARK THIRTY. And I imagine that the only reason that CABARET went dark on Sunday was because both Cumming and Stone were going to be attending the Globes, but are not cancelling performances next weekend when Stone goes to the SAG Awards. They probably figure enough people will not turn in their tickets if Cumming is there. Of course, if Gyllenhaal isn't nominated tomorrow (I'd say he has a 50/50 chance), they could always announce a "special added matinee" for Oscar Sunday. Especially if the demand becomes higher now in the wake of the rave reviews and Wilson's heightened profile.
