I was a little surprised Stone didn't announce she was going to the SAG Awards when they announced the extension to Feb 15. That would have been the natural time to announce it. Do you mean that you're surprised the production didn't announce to the public that she would be missing the two performances sooner than it did? Stone was originally set to leave February 1; even before her extension, I'm sure it was in her contract that she would miss those two performances were she nominated.
