How remarkably condescending of you. I judged it *as a film*, and I wouldn't have bought a ticket if I thought I wouldn't enjoy it. And *as a film*, I thought it didn't work, although it contained a lot of performances I liked very much. If you liked it more than I did, that's great.

And re: Sondheim - we don't know what he thinks about the film. We know what he's chosen to say about it in public. That isn't necessarily the same thing.
