I think this kind of anticipation is building up because there hasn't been a clear runaway hit musical yet this season and people are clamoring for one.

Casey Nicholaw's involvement also causes excitement (for me anyway), not only because he is so good at what he does, but also because he knows how to cast well.

There are a lot of elements aligned that make this seem like it will be a funny show. (A financial success will be another story, of course.)
