It was preceded in the movies by at least 1984's The Company of Wolves.

"But this does not detract from the inherent greatness of the movie. It is full of the spirit of adventure, superbly crafted in every department, thrillingly paced, tremendously witty and heartfelt all at once."

I wish I could completely agree. It is superbly crafted in some departments, but I think it is anything but superbly crafted in others.
