If I'm not mistaken, Goldman's original 1971 script describes Carlotta as being in "terrific shape for fifty." Which is why it wasn't too hard to believe she had a lover in his 20s.

Of course, she's also described as having a TV series of her own, which could make her a magnet for young male gold diggers.
