Yes, that is what I think. If it makes you feel any better, we're not the only two who consider the original script definitive and exquisite. Others on this board have expressed that basic feeling, and I know other people who don't post here (or post here only rarely) who feel that way very strongly.

If I had $50 million to spare I might, if I could find the right director.

The trouble would be that Bobby Goldman no longer wants that original script done. Which is also going to be the problem with New York revivals for the near future.
