Hot literally her son - NYT obit explains very clearly - but the last of the many foundlings she took under her wing, and also her biographer.

A wonderful, effusive, generous man, very much a part of life along Theater Row. It's terribly sad.

Link Obit for Jean-Claude Baker

Sad to read that he took his life. As with Robin Williams (and countless celebrities and non-celebrities alike), it proves yet again that the warmest smile and the most ebullient personality can mask deep sadness.

So sad...I had a couple of private parties there and he was so nice and accommodating, although he told the guest of honor of a surprise party that the party was upstairs..I hope the restaurant still thrives...great atmosphere and food!

Aside from all the wonderful evenings I have had at Chez Josephine, I have been thinking about Jean Claude's kindness and generosity to my cousin, another "best" friend of his, when my cousin was ill and dying. Jean Claude opened his home to my cousin's sister and she stayed with him for weeks. I will never forget the comfort he brought her during that very difficult time.

He will be missed.

I was there two weeks ago and he didn't seem like his usual cheerful self. It won't be the same at CJ.
