Fascinating; but can anyone deduce so much in one hearing?

Does the average theater audience, to say nothing of those viewing the film, embrace such rarefied and arcane concepts as the Great Goddess? To most of us, she's a woman who had her vegetables stolen and steals a child and puts curses on people out of revenge and retribution. As you allow, she's carved fairly realistically, not presented in symbolic or iconic terms. She's a real woman in real circumstances, and then becomes ... a Goddess returning to the earth? I think your expert points and theories -- as astute as they are -- support my befuddlement. If that much can be excavated from or projected onto the Witch, she has is at best vague at worst simply too confusing. I wish her exit was somehow less and more. But Streep makes a good case for the song's musical weight, and it's an exciting vocal performance and the visuals are admittedly thrilling.
