The "blue moon" thing was helpful, but I'm not sure that any other change was helpful in terms of making sense of things that don't make much sense onstage either. I thought most of those other changes made things worse.

For example, on the one hand, the elimination of the time lapse of something like 10 months or a year between the acts (yes, of course, there are no literal acts in the movie) does remove one question I've always had — why does the giant's wife wait so long to take revenge? — but it creates a whole slew of problems not in the stage version.

While there are several ways to reasonably justify the giant's wife delay, I think the loss of the time lapse creates several problems that simply cannot be explained in any reasonble way.
