I just listened to that part of the soundtrack to see if I'd forgotten and it had been changed for the movie, and what I heard was "Guide them along the way / Children will listen." Give it a listen and tell me if you really are hearing something different. Is it perhaps different in the movie than on the soundtrack? Anyway, I don't remember that from when I saw it. And that is what it is on page 102 of Look, I Made a Hat, and on the video of the original Broadway production. And that is what it was onstage in the production. The published script and score have "Children may not obey," and that has been sung in later productions.
