That is one of the better scenes in the movie. Something I found fascinating about it is Groff's character not hiding an attraction to Chris Kyle (Cooper). Not that the scene was about that, but that it wasn't denied.

Just something interesting brought to the table, something that you don't expect to see acknowledged in war/warrior movies.

I think you are reading something into this that wasn't there. All I saw was a truly emotional expression of gratitude for something that can never be fully repaid.

I did not in any way see where Groff's character had any attraction to cooper's.

Huh??? I saw the film and that NEVER ever came close to entering my mind. Funny how we bring our own agendas to something. For example, I saw it as an anti war film, but others see it as pro war, America Rah Rah.

I saw no agenda on Jonathan or anyone else's part. What I saw, or my interpretation of what I saw, was not at all critical. I thought it was unique and brave. If I am projecting, I am not the first audience member to do so and I won't be the last.

I did not find the film pro- or anti- war. It was a look at a warrior.

I think some people, consciously or not, always read a gay subtext into any role played by an out actor, whether it's there or not.
