Can I just ask what makes a presumably grownup person to be "disappointed" that a celebrity didn't get an oscar nomination? I mean, out of all the things in the world that may upset you, why would you be bothered that a complete stranger, who - like all Hollywood A-list actors - is unproportionally privileged vs. 99.9% of everyone else in the world, is not nominated to receive an industry award?

And I am not trying to be a troll. I am asking coz I really don't get why people actually care/feel bad for a movie star's vanity.

Since you asked... As a definitely "grownup person" who has followed the Oscars since they first were televised, I follow the nominations closely. Jake G. was considered as having a good chance of getting a nomination for Nightcrawler, a film and a performance I found very worthy of nominations. I merely said I was disappointed he didn't get nominated, and since that spot went to Bradley Cooper, since the other four nominations were given to actors pretty much anticipated as getting them, I was perfectly happy that Cooper was nominated, as he's quite wonderful in American Sniper. This was an exceptional year for actors in films. Expressing happiness or disappointment is part of the annual awards game, and it will continue with the Tony Awards when people who post on this board will be making predictions and expressing dismay over who should have been nominated and who wasn't. Life goes on, and it's not the end of the world if a favorite is nominated or not.

And using the term "grownup" as a placeholder for your snark basically makes you a troll.

You don't have to care about actors, awards or "vanity' but don't make judgements because someone does.

I don't see it as vanity.

It's nice to see someone put effort into a role rather than phoning it in as many A-listers do and be recognized for it.

The Award shows don't actually mean anything for us, but it's nice to see a deserving actor/actress rewarded.

Bradley Cooper is a good example as he has proven quite versatile in these past years and not one-note like others.
Clooney for example IMHO.
