JoAnne Worley in GYPSY, DOLLY, anyone??

Curious how she played these parts, which she seems to have done a lot. She has that larger-than-life personna a la Channing but can't quite see her in the more dramatic parts of GYPSY. She certainly looks the part though, or did. Has been quite active in theater since Laugh-In curious what folks thought.

I saw Worley do both GYPSY and DOLLY quite a few years ago. She certainly had the energy and the pipes for both, but as Rose she had a tendency to fall back on her broad comedic skills and not go deep enough to fully realize Rose's arc. She was a lot of fun in DOLLY but even then moved a little too quickly through the show's emotional moments. (Not as quickly as Lainie Kazan, though, who I saw perform DOLLY in Atlantic City. She barreled through that part so fast she might as well have been wearing track shoes.) On the other hand, I though her performance was Madame Morrible was terrific.
