I saw an excellent small-scale (50-seat theatre!) production of AIDA two years ago in a local community theatre. I don't remember anything special about the male numbers, other than the choreography was really good, and in one number, they utilized staffs. That production blew me away because they down-sized it perfectly -- focused on the love triangle with top-notch leads, and designed a minimal but effective set and no extravagant costuming.
