We keep each other honest. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes painful – and so it is with this play.” The story explored in Tree unfolds when a southern white woman shows up at the home of an African-American man in Chicago and claims to be his half-sister, impelling them to confront a shared past. CURTAINS is on stage at the Saratoga Civic Theatre located at 13777 Fruitvale Avenue in Saratoga, January 24 to February 14, 2015. Performance times are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20 – $35. Opening Night $39 (champagne reception). To order tickets by phone, call 408-266-4734. From the writing team of John Kander and Fred Ebb (“Cabaret,” “Chicago”), CURTAINS is a hilarious musical send-up of backstage murder mystery plots. Set in 1959 Boston, it chronicles the fallout when the supremely untalented star of “Robbin' Hood of the Old West” is murdered during her opening night curtain call. Everyone in the cast and crew is a suspect, and it’s up to Lt. Frank Cioffi, a police detective who moonlights as a musical theatre fan, to save the production, solve the case, and maybe even find love before the show reopens—all without getting killed himself. This bright, brassy comedy has plot twists and revelations worthy of the cleverest whodunits, along with plenty of memorable musical numbers from one of Broadway’s most talented songwriting duos. Can you solve this musical mystery before the detective does?
