There is also the problem, which I think you mentioned above, that it would not have made sense for a headliner like Solange, or even someone who may have been a featured performer of a certain fame but not a headliner (as the Whitmans may have been), dancing alongside the chorus girls in the number. It just makes no sense.

It's not so implausible that Solange and Emily may have been in more than one edition of the show and might have been in the 1941 edition (although we are also given no reason to think that), but neither of them would have been dancing alongside the chorus girls, supporting someone else (who, it seems, was never a major star either).
