The Fabulous Invalid by Kaufman/Hart Launches 'ReGroup Reads' Series
There has always been something threatening to kill the theatre. Long before 49 producers were needed to mount a show, reality stars hit the boards, or 42nd Street became Disney-fied... And even long before Andrew Lloyd Webber, the same constant revivals, or premium ticket prices... It was a countless list of other events daring to put the theatre six feet under. The theatre community's constant fear of these other diabolical dilemmas: from the caustic critic, the invention of the automobile, burlesque, union strikes, the 'talkies' and more are cleverly skewered as only Moss Hart & George S. Kaufman could in The Fabulous Invalid. Their 1938 'valentine' to the theatre's resilience is the first reading in ReGroup Theatre’s new monthly series 'ReGroup Reads: The Greatest American Playwrights.'
The reading takes place at The Workshop Theatre, 312 W 36th St, 4th floor (elevator available) on Monday January 26th, 2015 at 7 PM. The reading will be on a 'donate what you can basis.' If you can’t donate, show up and join us for a good laugh at this delicious piece of American Theatre.

The ReGroup Co. Inc, a 501(C)(3) non-profit, is now entering its 5th year, and is furthering its focus on introducing audiences, actors, directors and playwrights to the best of American Theatre by adding a monthly reading series. Starting in with The Fabulous Invalid, ReGroup Reads: The Greatest American Playwrights will feature works by Tennessee Williams, William Inge (Where's Daddy?), John Howard Lawson (Processional), Paul Green (Hymn to the Rising Sun/ White Dresses), Sidney Howard (They Knew What They Wanted) , Maxwell Anderson (Truckline Cafe), Lillian Hellman, Clifford Odets, William Saroyan and more!
Having just come off of a triumphant 2014, in which their production of Preston Jones’ A Texas Trilogy was named one of the 'top 10 shows of 2014' by Peter Filichia, and their acclaimed production of Paul Green’s The House of Connelly which was championed by Mr. Green’s family as the best they’d seen, ReGroup aims to have an even more fruitful 2015.
The second in the reading series will take place on Feb 23rd and will focus on early One-Acts by Tennessee Williams and featuring guest artists Lois Smith and Kathleen Chalfant. This benefit reading will be followed by a Q&A, led by James Grissom, author of the highly anticipated book, Follies of God: Tennessee Williams and the Women of the Fog.
