So - Ben Brantley let me down ...

I know that many ATCers loathe Mr Brantley. I usually find him smart and interesting, even when I disagree - as I do vehemently re Honeymoon in Vegas - which seems like one of the musicals that came and went overnight so readily during the Golden Age. Professionally done, some interesting performances, but d.o.a.

So first I read his second rave of this show. ANd then I went this weekend to see SORRY ROBOT at the New ohio. Mr Brantley reviewed this showcase production for some unknown reason. He raved about it.

So I went online and bought a ticket, and went to the final performance Saturday Night. What did I see? an 85 minute lame amateur script - and a production and performances which were at the level of the worst community theatre you can imagine.

I searched in vain for any redeeming quality this show had. I found none. After about 25 minutes I just succumbed to the fact that there were 60 minutes of theatrical torture left. Unfortunately there is no discreet way to flee the New Ohio, unless you are on the aisle in row 2 or 3.

I posted about this last week. And said how amateurish it was. No one listens to me here. I walked out of the show. I've never done that. It was awful.

That's excellent. Now you know your tastes don't align with his, and you can find a critic who's more likely to guide you to more productive choices. Simple.
