Only very tangentially. The story is not about King, though the reason for including him in this abstract world of Gandhi is obvious. But we only see him - we never hear from him, and he remains more of a symbol than a character, just as Tolstoy is presented in Act I, and Tagore in Act II.

It would actually be interesting to see a production of the opera where those 3 characters do get a more prominent role in the staging, as the piece is already very abstract in terms of characters and story.

But I don't think it's fair to say that Glass' opera is, in any significant/direct way, about King.
