| Was just losing myself in some clips of Reba doing Annie Get Your Gun. Was there ever serious talk about filming this with her? I didn't see her live, but the audio and video clips I've heard are so thrilling. Has this been a serious contender for the NBC live musical? Is she too old to do it now? It just seems a damn shame that this performance should be lost in the winds of time. Also, anyone have any fond remembrances of seeing Reba on stage? I saw Crystal Bernard, who I thought was just lovely; and I remember saying so to an usher at intermission. She politely smiled and said, "Yeah, but you shoulda seen Reba!" | |

| I'm a fan of all 3 so I loved them all. Bernadette was very good. And Reba glowed and sang it the best. It was definitely a special evening. She should've been given a special Tony. Seeing Susan was wild because I only knew her as Erica Kane. She sang it well also. | |

| After Reba's rapturous reception in the role (and really there's been nothing like it since), CBS announced a TV movie version of the show starring Reba. It would probably have been akin to the TV version of GYPSY with Bette Midler, which was also a CBS project. Alas, nothing ever came of it. I never heard why, but probably any of a hundred different reasons. | |

| Since Bernadette played it like a cretin (but sang like an angel), I was knocked out by Reba. Should have been followed by an UNCHANGED Molly Brown or Destry. She could still DO Destry. | |

| Great idea! I'd love to see Reba as Frenchy sing that great score. How about Tom Wopat as Tom Destry, Noah Racey as Bugs Watson, Josh Gad as Wash (he'd be hilarious doing Hoop-de-Dingle) and Capathia Jenkins as Clara. A perfect show for Encores. | |

| I agree with all the posters below. Reba was amazing. I really had no interest in seeing her but my mother did so we went. We were both flying when we left. Wasn't there some talk or maybe just some hoping out loud that there would be some sort of Tony for replacement casting due to her stellar performance. I'm not sure if I was active on this board or a mere lurker at the time.... | |

| It was magic on Broadway. Reba surpassed anyone else I had seen do the role. She was perfect. Brent Barrett was fabulous two, the two together couldn't be better. There was a plan for this to be taped for tv but it fell through. No she is not too old for the role. I saw Merman do it in the revival at Lincoln Center and this was on tv. I saw Bernadette do it. Put her in the tv version she is so believable. | |

| PS. I saw Cathy Rigby do it with the National Company based on the Bernadette production with Brent in that role in New Haven. Also Judy Kaye did a wonderful version of it at the Papermill Playhouse. | |

| Reba is the gold standard for the role, but I always thought Carrie Underwood might've had a fightin' chance if she had played Annie rather than Maria Von Trapp. She could've found the rhythms of the character's speech effortlessly, rather than straining to sell both an Austrian and a nun. In hindsight, the decision to shove a C&W/Idol star in to the R&H classic seems even more ludicrous, when ANNIE GET YOUR GUN could've worked. But too late. And then of course, Ms. Williams was accomplished but still devoid of needed personality and charisma as Peter. Why can't they work harder at matching sensibilities and known skill sets to synergy between performer and role? Anyway, about a decade ago, Reba would've been wonderful in MOLLY BROWN. Now she's too old, and the material is still in turnaround. She found the role of a lifetime in ANNIE, and was vastly superior to Peters, who seemed to wear the role as window dressing without fully inhabiting it. And I still loved hearing her. | |

| Reba was the most magical Annie imaginable. I was mesmerized by her singing and acting. I didn't get to see Brent Barrett the day I went but his understudy was good, though I heard Barrett and McIntire were wonderful together. | |

| Reba gave one of the best stage performances I've ever seen -- certainly in that role and certainly in that theater. She was able to project an intimacy in what I consider to be a "cold" theatre. Maybe it's because she has that magic that can do a similar thing in a large auditorium as a concert performer, which carried over to her stage performance in that otherwise terrible theater. I do think, however, she's too old to be seen in film close-up in that role. Too bad. | |

| They were wonderful together. I'm sorry that you didn't get to see them. Truthfully, Barrett has never been one of my favorites--a little too standard-issue leading man to be really interesting to me--but like Reba with Annie, I think he found his "role of a lifetime" in Frank Butler. | |

| I agree with everyone else. Reba was perfect as Annie Oakley....the role fit her like a glove. She is really a very believable actress and her agent should try to get her a film or stage role that could show her true range. | |

| ... but could Reba do Mame? I know, yet another in the long list of actresses mentioned for the role. She's the right age, and her fun, laid-back country charm could be the right dichotomy to stuffy society and high-wealth. I've seen her in concert twice, once at the cavernous Cow Palace here in San Francisco with its horrible acoustics. Despite the sound, she gave a fantastic performance. The other time was an intimate casino ballroom. She seemed to prefer the latter as she could more easily engage with the audience. | |

| Dolly, maybe. (You'd have to interpolate a line or two about how she was born in Oklahoma.) Mrs. Sally Adams, certainly. But not Mame: too much hinges on the character's sophistication and insideriness as a New Yorker. | |

| Agreed. She has to be convincing as a Connecticut WASP, or else the scene with the Uptons makes no sense. At this point in her life, I don't think Reba could ever believably play anything other than the Arkansas gal she is in real life. | |

| Reba could probably be a wonderful Miss Mona in "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" as well. Love the "Destry" idea; it's a fine score which deserves to be heard more often. | |

| Sally Adams is from Oklahoma ("I was born on a thousand acres of Oklahama land..."). The character is based on Perle Mesta, whose father made his money in Oklahoma oil. | |

| Actually what happened at the time was that Reba got her series commitment and wasn't available to do the planned TV version to everyone's disappointment. Although she was a great Annie she was a very disappointing Nellie Forbush at the Carnegie Hall concert, holding the script up over her face for every number except for Honey Bun which she did in costume and was terrific in that. | |

| I must be the only person who liked Reba more in the "South Pacific" concert than "Annie Get Your Gun." Perhaps I did not mind her not knowing the lines or the songs so much because I was sitting in the highest balcony at Carnegie Hall. It was still obvious, but less important sitting so far away. Also I believe "South Pacific" is a better musical. | |
