I agree with all the posters below. Reba was amazing. I really had no interest in seeing her but my mother did so we went. We were both flying when we left.

Wasn't there some talk or maybe just some hoping out loud that there would be some sort of Tony for replacement casting due to her stellar performance. I'm not sure if I was active on this board or a mere lurker at the time....

Actually, the Drama Desk gave her a special award for her replacement performance. She was amazing.

It was magic on Broadway. Reba surpassed anyone else I had seen do the role. She was perfect. Brent Barrett was fabulous two, the two together couldn't be better. There was a plan for this to be taped for tv but it fell through.

No she is not too old for the role.

I saw Merman do it in the revival at Lincoln Center and this was on tv. I saw Bernadette do it.

Put her in the tv version she is so believable.

PS. I saw Cathy Rigby do it with the National Company based on the Bernadette production with Brent in that role in New Haven.

Also Judy Kaye did a wonderful version of it at the Papermill Playhouse.
