LEGAL MOMENTUM AND RE:GENDER LEAD TALKBACKS ON RAPE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN CONJUNCTION WITH PAUL DAVID YOUNG’S NEW PLAY KENTUCKY CANTATA ON JANUARY 29 AND FEBRUARY 3, 2015
Post-performance discussion addressing issues of violence and sexual assault against women. Discussion follows presentation of Kentucky Cantata, Paul David Young’s play about a young actress who is raped in a parking lot. The story traverses pressing issues of our time: violence against women, race, and immigration.
Discussion led by Áine Duggan, President of Re:Gender, an organization connecting research, policy, and practice to advance gender equity, and Carol Robles-Román, President and CEO of Legal Momentum, the oldest legal advocacy group for women in the United States.

Áine Duggan is President of Re:Gender (formerly National Council for Research on Women), which works to end gender inequity by exposing root causes and advancing research-informed action. Comprising over 300 cross-sector institutions and individuals, Re:Gender's work is focused on eradicating sexual violence, achieving economic justice, and disrupting gender norms.
Carol Robles-Román is President and CEO of Legal Momentum, The Women’s Legal Defense & Education Fund, a national organization that advances the rights of women and girls. In her role Ms. Robles-Román creates public-private partnerships that promote gender equality for women and girls. Legal Momentum’s targeted litigation, education, policy advocacy, and research help to shape the laws and policies that affect gender equality and ensure that they are properly implemented and enforced.
In Paul David Young’s Kentucky Cantata, actors and musicians share the stage to tell the story of a young actress who leaves her rural Kentucky home for New York, where she is raped in a parking lot.
