  • Last week ended Sunday, January 18, Broadway grosses totaled $24,414,291 for 29 shows. In the prior week, the same 29 shows grossed $23,765,670. In the comparable week last year, 26 shows grossed $20,091,734.

  • Note that last week, The Elephant Man, starring current Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper, played only five performances. Those performances played to SRO houses at an average ticket price of over $170 which lifted the gross to 112% of potential due to premium ticket sales. Also, Emma Stone, another Oscar nominee, has definitely lifted sales at Cabaret.

  • There were two openings last week, both receiving excellent reviews, notably from The New York Times. The not-for-profit Constellations, which opened last Tuesday, improved its gross by $96,000. Honeymoon in Vegas, which opened last Thursday, saw a modest $41,000 increase in a week where there were many press and industry comps.

  • TWO HIT MUSICALS CLOSE:

    — Rock of Ages concluded its long run on Sunday at the Helen Hayes Theatre. The show started at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (03-17-2009 to 01-09-2011) and then moved to the Hayes (starting 03-24-2011), playing 22 previews and 2328 performances. It is the 27th longest-running show in Broadway history, tied with Man of La Mancha. Cumulative gross: $128,993,202 which was 68% of gross potential. Average admission price: $89.

    — Motown: The Musical ended its 775-performance run at theLunt-Fontanne Theatre on Sunday, having recouped its $18 million investment at the end of 2014. Cumulative grosses for 37 previews and 738 performances total $115,002,552. The weekly box office averaged 84% of gross potential at an average ticket price of $108. A 2016 return to Broadway in a streamlined version has been announced.
