“THE VISIT”

STARRING

CHITA RIVERA

AND

ROGER REES

OFFERS AN EXCLUSIVE PRESALE
FOR AUDIENCE REWARD MEMBERS
STARTING JANUARY 26

GENERAL ONSALE BEGINS FEBRUARY 1

Producers Tom Kirdahy, Tom Smedes, Hugh Hayes and Judith Ann Abrams announced today that the highly anticipated musical, The Visit, soon to open on Broadway, will have an exclusive presale for Audience Reward members beginning January 26, 2015. Please visit AudienceRewards.com to sign up and purchase. General on sale will begin February 1, 2015 and tickets will be available on Telecharge.com.

Based on the satirical play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt as adapted by Maurice Valency, The Visit features music and lyrics by the Tony Award® winning team John Kander & Fred Ebb, book by four-time Tony Award® winning playwright Terrence McNally. It will open on Broadway this spring, starring two-time Tony Award® winning Broadway legend Chita Rivera and Tony Award® winner Roger Rees. Helmed by Tony Award® winning director John Doyle and choreographed by Tony Award® nominee Graciela Daniele, The Visit will begin performances at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street) on Thursday, March 26 with an Opening Night set for Thursday, April 23.

In her juiciest role yet, Chita Rivera is Claire Zachannassian, the world’s wealthiest woman, who returns home to Anton (Roger Rees) who captured her heart then shattered her dreams. What she does next shocks the town and makes for the most thrilling and intriguing musical in years. From the team that brought you “Cabaret”, “Chicago”, “Kiss of the Spider Woman”, this tale of romance, seduction and betrayal proves that revenge is the best revenge.

Complete cast, creative, and additional information for The Visit will be announced shortly.

I want this to succeed so bad. I saw it in Williamstown this summer and was riveted. The other two in my group were less impressed. I don't know what these producers are thinking but the 2015 broadway audience is not going to embrace this piece. I wish them luck but dark and provocative does not mix well with broadway 2015.

It would help if both top Times had not reviewed regional productions without expressing great enthusiasm for the piece. And, of course, it is the most recent of those regional productions that is coming to the Lyceum (perhaps with a few cast changes in supporting roles and minor adjustments, but essentially that production).

Having said that, I agree with robert_j that some investors may feel that they're making an important contribution to the arts, akin to making a contribution to a nonprofit company. Investors in the Broadway transfer of Caroline, or Change stated that they were expecting to lose their money, but they felt it was important that the show be seen on Broadway (or something along those lines).

Naive question, but are investors always in it for the money? In the opera world, donors routinely gift productions to opera houses, obviously with no expectation of returning a profit. Might not a similar logic sometimes obtain here? People might just really like Chita and want to donate to the production in order to get her on Broadway. It is a donation to the arts, not a commercial venture (although if it does make money, that is a nice bonus).

no, but the opera isa non profit enterprise whereas commercial broadway is a for profit enterprise. If you read the offering papers for the show, there is nothing in there aboutdonating to the arts,

I think CHITA is great, but if I were producing, and I wanted to make a profit, I'd cast Jennifer Lopez and Hugh Jackman.
