The original weekly operating costs (breakeven including theatre rent and royalties) was around $750,000. The article says that they have recently reduced those costs to $675,000. In its 18 weeks to date, the gross gross weekly has averaged $718,000 - which means the Net Gross is around $650,000 a week (deductions run about 9.5% from gross gross on average). At that rate, they have incurred operating losses since opening in the $1.4-1.6 million range. If grosses stay flat where they have been since New Year's, around $650,00-$675,000 gross gross a week - even at the new reductions, the show will be losing $65-75,000 a week. The Kagans have deep enough pockets to keep the show open til the Tony Nominations, and assuming those go well, til after the Tonys. If they win Best Musical Revival that might - or might not push them over the top. They are good people who deserve the best. Fingers crossed.
