I was just looking at the Public's website when I heard that there were tickets available for HAMILTON tomorrow night (its' second preview) and was gobsmacked to see that they are asking $120 ($80-85 for members). I see nothing on the website about any ways to pay less: are there ways to pay less? And is this a typical price at The Public? Typical for a musical? Typical for Lyn-Manuel Miranda's follow-up to IN THE HEIGHTS? I find the way a lot of the small, not-for-profits are doing business these days makes me queasy. The Donmar Warehouse in London, for instance, now basically requires you to be a member in order to get a seat. By the time the various levels of membership have ordered during their early ordering period, there is virtually nothing left. However they at least offer £10 seats a week before in a scheme supported by Barclays. (The traffic on their box office website- which is a third party system- has proven massive when I've tried and I've never gotten anything.) Failing that there are always day standing room places and the usual smattering of returns. Does The Public have any of this?
