I recall him also rejecting the idea of repeating his iconic role of Harold Hill in a Broadway revival. He said very matter of factly that he had committed his performance to film and saw no reason to do it again. He certainly could have pulled it off age-wise and woulda been a big moneymaker. When Craig Bierko did it in last revival, some critics said he was imitating Preston.
