A 2-show day at SF Playhouse & Feinstein's

Posted by: shyllei 04:09 pm EDT 04/06/15

Started the day at a matinee of Stupid F##king Bird at SF Playhouse. It started slow and built up in momentum which led to an excellent show. Not sure if it made more sense knowing my Chekhov or not, but it was interesting afterwards at the talk back to hear some audience members call this a new type of show. Yes, the actors break the 4th wall, but it isn't new. Or, I guess what is old is new again. The stage design and actors are fine. Glad I saw it, but I definitely don't need to see it again.

The evening found me at Feinstein's at the Nikko where the performer was Lea Salonga. Nice to hear her fabulous voice accompanied only with a piano. She did a range of theatre songs and standards - Les Mis, Cabaret, Ragtime, Bridges or Madison County. I didn't write the set list down, but it was a nice mix. With even a little shout out to the Jason Robert Brown and the cast of Honeymoon in Vegas.
