BERKELEY REP PRESENTS THE WEST COAST PREMIERE OF RICHARD BEAN’S AWARD-WINNING BRITISH COMEDY ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS

Internationally acclaimed smash hit delivers ingenious mix of satire, songs, and slapstick
– Berkeley Repertory Theatre is proud to conclude its 48th season with Richard Bean’s internationally acclaimed One Man, Two Guvnors, a sassy update of Carlo Goldoni’s classic knee-slapper, The Servant of Two Masters. Set in 1963 Brighton, England, One Man, Two Guvnors is a brilliantly delicious mash-up of splendid comedy, British pantomime, and music-hall revues. The uproarious plot features a disarming and doltish Francis Henshall who finds himself trapped by farce into working for two bosses – who are connected in wildly improbable ways. He just has to keep them from discovering each other. Inspired insanity, high-low antics, and nimble wordplay ensue – all backed by live musicians paying homage to rockabilly and a certain Fab Four. Directed by David Ivers — artistic director of the Utah Shakespeare Festival — and with songs by Grant Olding, One Man, Two Guvnors is a riotous blast complete with a colorful cast of characters in a topsy-turvy world of love triangles and mistaken identities. It previews on Friday May 8, 2015, opens on Friday, May 15, 2015, and plays through Sunday June 21, 2015. Press night for One Man, Two Guvnors will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015. Individual tickets start at $29 and can be purchased by phone at (510) 647-2949 or online at berkeleyrep.org.

Since it originated at London’s National Theatre in 2011, One Man, Two Guvnors has received effusive praise. “[An] inspired adaptation… The language is fueled by a logic that is as irrefutable as it is silly… It gleefully skewers the tortured metaphors of lovers’ flights of fancy and traffics unapologetically in the childish, tongue-twisting pleasures of alliteration,” raves the New York Times. “Ingenious… Unlike many farces, this one is also verbally funny. Bean’s script is full of good gags…I suspect you would had to have had a humour by-pass not to enjoy it,” proclaims the London Guardian. “Gut-busting… Amusing original songs by Grant Olding suggest the legacy of British music hall, and cast members take part during scene changes in variety-act interludes, providing accompaniment on xylophone, kettle drums, claxons...while at the same time evoking the unmistakable feel of early ’60s England,” writes the Hollywood Reporter

Six shows sing for spring at Cinnabar!

– Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma welcomes spring with six events that sing. The talented teens in its Young Rep bring your favorite cartoon characters home to Sonoma County with the heartwarming musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Professional musicians offer two exquisite concerts, Cinnabar’s community choirs offer two concerts of their own, and the season concludes with a masterful production of Verdi’s Falstaff. Unless otherwise noted, all performances are at Cinnabar’s jewel-box theater located on a hilltop at 3333 Petaluma Boulevard North.

The debut of the CinnaGals: May 3 at 7:00 PM
The fun begins when Cinnabar’s new women’s chorus has its debut performance at the Petaluma Arts Center (230 Lakeville Street). Led by Cheryl Moore, the CinnaGals let loose with glorious songs that span 500 years of American ballads, Italian madrigals, and English folk music.

Cinnabar Singers’ spring concert: May 16 at 7:30 PM
Savor gorgeous harmonies when the Cinnabar Singers offers their spring concert at Petaluma’s United Church of Christ (825 Middlefield Drive). Dr. Michael Shahani conducts beautiful spirituals and choral works such as Samuel Barber’s “Reincarnations.”

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown: May 15 - 24
In this buoyant Broadway musical, Cinnabar’s Young Rep brings the Peanuts gang to life. The beloved characters created by Charles Schulz take the stage as 34 local kids portray Snoopy and all his friends. Performances are at 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00 PM on Sundays. This delightful show is generously underwritten by Madeleine and Scott Ashe in honor of Young Rep alumna Erin Yvette Ashe.

Le Jazz Hot: May 17 at 7:30 PM
This popular quartet plays sensuous gypsy jazz with quietly dazzling brilliance. Le Jazz Hot delivers scintillating versions of classics by Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grapelli, and Cole Porter, as well as sparkling originals. The band swings with ease thanks to Paul Mehling’s lead guitar and vocals with Isabelle Fontaine on rhythm guitar and vocals, Evan Price on violin, and Sam Rocha on bass.

Falstaff: June 12 - 28
Performed entirely in English, this irreverent opera combines Verdi’s glorious score with Shakespeare’s uproarious rogue. Following on their flawless Figaro, Artistic Director Elly Lichenstein and Music Director Mary Chun unveil another sumptuous and sonorous show. Burly baritone Jo Vincent Parks embodies the irrepressible rascal in this rollicking tale of wine, women, and song.

Amanacer Flamenco: June 14 at 7:30 PM
Cinnabar’s Sunday Concert Series comes to a rousing conclusion when Amanacer returns to sing, dance, strum, and stomp across its stage. Starring Jose Cortes, Ricardo Diaz, Sara Maria, and Aldo Ruiz, it’s a passionate show of authentic flamenco. These four artists meld fantastic music, breathtaking dance, and powerful singing to create an exciting and enthralling evening.

Get tickets online at any time by visiting cinnabartheater.org, or call the box office at 707-763-8920 between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM on weekdays. Tickets may also be available at the door, but reservations are recommended as Cinnabar’s shows often sell out.

Every year, Cinnabar Theater produces a thrilling mix of plays, musicals, operas, and concerts in a remarkable range of genres. Cinnabar’s Young Rep offers extensive activities for local youth, and its community choirs welcome anyone who wants to be part of a chorus. $10,000 RHE Artistic Fellowship Awarded to Oakland Actor Sarah Moser selected as recipient of prestigious award

– Busy on stages throughout the region, Sarah Moser has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the RHE Artistic Fellowship, a program of Theatre Bay Area in partnership with the RHE Foundation. Moser will receive $10,000 and a year-long mentorship to help her achieve her career goals.

The purpose of the RHE Artistic Fellowship is to make a significant investment in an individual artist that allows for learning and experimentation, and enables them to focus on specific areas of learning they otherwise might not have the opportunity to explore. The scope of the award is designed to have a substantial impact on the trajectory of the artist’s career.

"I am unbelievably humbled by this opportunity to continue to train and develop my voice, body, and imagination. It is so rare to have the support and resources to face artistic roadblocks and to grow. I'm also deeply grateful for the opportunity to explore how the body holds trauma for actors and non-actors alike. I'm so excited for this year of hard work and growth," said Moser after learning of her selection.

Sarah has been acting in the region since 2008 and has been seen at Just Theater, Shotgun Players, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Magic Theatre, California Shakespeare Theater, Tides Theatre, City Lights Theater, Palo Alto Players, and many more. She has a B.A. from Stanford University and has trained at Studio A.C.T., Waterfront Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She was a 2014 recipient of Theatre Bay Area’s Titan Award, which recognizes and supports outstanding work of theatre artists.

Four judges made the selection based on applicants' body of work and written plans. They are: Just Theater artistic director Jonathan Spector; TheatreWorks associate artistic director Leslie Martinson; local actor and instructor Bruce Williams and Jennifer Heyneman Sousae, MFT, of the RHE Charitable Foundation.

Finalists for the RHE Artistic Fellowship are Roselyn Hallet, Cindy Im, and Kathryn Zdan.

The award will be presented to Moser during the Theatre Bay Area Annual Conference on April 13, at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Information on the conference can be found at http://www.theatrebayarea.org/?AnnualConference.
