I've never seen Mermaid on stage, and haven't see the film in a long, long time. Love the piece though, and I've added the OBC into my listening loop in the last couple weeks. Fun listening! May have to trek up to Sacramento . . .

It's not a tour

I have been told that it's not a tour, that it is being produced in conjunction with San Diego and Houston, and will be based on Glenn Casale's Music Circus production (which was excellent).

So sad is only way to see it. I saw it on Broadway and enjoyed it, but it was a weak disney show.

Casale's version was much better, I thought, so I'll be curious to see what they come up with for this Sac production.

Correct.

Although they must have a lot of faith in it, having just done it recently at Music Circus and bringing it back in a venue much, much larger. But perhaps powers that be will see Casale's staging as a potential touring property in the future.

I believe last year it was done as a co-production between Dallas, Paper Mill, and Atlanta. Or was that another staging?

Is the Pittsburgh CLO, Paper Mill Playhouse and Kansas City Starlight Theatre co-production what you're thinking of? That was in 2013, and it was very good.

I don't know about the Dallas/Paper Mill/Atlanta staging you mention. But the Music Circus production was very well done, with script changes from the Broadway version -- Casale's version worked better. But obviously the Music Circus version was staged in the round, so this new production will have to be different again.
