| -------------------- OPENINGS ----------------- 42nd Street Moon, San Francisco’s only resident professional musical theatre company, presents WHERE’S CHARLEY?, Frank Loesser and George Abbott's lively musical adaptation of Brandon Thomas's uproarious 1892 farce Charley's Aunt. Keith Pinto (who previously appeared as the title character in 42nd Street Moon’s SNOOPY!!!) will star as Charley, an Oxford student who masquerades as his aged Aunt in order to “chaperone” his friends and their female companions. This brilliant plan begins to crumble as the faux Aunt becomes the object of attention for more than one elderly suitor. From the songwriter of the long running-smash hit Guys and Dolls comes this bright and effervescent musical, directed by Dyan McBride. Inspired by Duke Ellington Orchestra’s 1963 tour to Iran and featuring music by Marcus Shelby, Isfahan Blues imagines an unlikely friendship between an American jazz musician and an Iranian actress. As they travel together to Isfahan, “the most beautiful city in the world,” Jazz inspires them to test the limits of freedom, creativity, and experimentation. Isfahan Blues is co-produced with Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company focused on the Middle East. Contrary to today’s political stalemate between the US and Iran, this production aims to shed light on a little-known historical moment when a uniquely American art form inspired generations of young Iranian musicians.
