SHN Next Season Questions

Posted by: MarkBearSF 02:31 pm EDT 04/28/15

Any word on the casting? (Specifically Gent's Guide & If/Then)

I know I've seen Dirty Dancing knocking around for a few years. Can someone remind me of its history and is it a serious contender for B'way?

From beginning of dec (after if/the ) until August (beautiful), the other shows ( cabaret, gentleman guide and dirty dancing) are at golden gate. Maybe the 6th show is a big sit down--or wicked.

what shows are missing...

Sound of music
Hedwig
Bullets over Broadway
Bridges of Madison county
Cinderella

I think titanic and Aladdin are touring also.

So we have one of the worst tours ever, dirty dancing, and a show the premiered here already. I was hoping Shorenstein leaving would have improved the series. At least nederlanders seem to bring more nin subs shows now.

Two years ago, we lucked out with Pippin. Currently, we're stuck with Phantom redux. Hopefully next year it'll be decent. (IMHO)

Why is The Sound of Music touring? I can't see any pressing reason to bring in a tour of that show.

Cinderella just played San Jose, so if they're sticking with the old business model, that's why we're not seeing it in SF.

As for the rest, well, there's still one TBA slot.

Bullets is going out non-Equity. Not that we've never had non-Equity tours here... just pointing that out. And, well, it really isn't a good show.

And they're going to bring back Beautiful for the same reason they brought back Wicked after it tried out here - people will buy tickets.

I feel like Hedwig wouldn't play well in the Golden Gate or Orpheum. And even in SF, it might be tough to fill those giant theaters.

Ddancing just played sac

Same thing could be said about both shows since it would be months before Cinderella actually played in sf in the subscription.

Beautiful should be an extra show, not subscription. At least somusic would be a new first rate production to sf.

I actually like bullets a lot and would see it again. But your nOn-equity statement probably means it couldn't be a subscription show.

It's also sad that plays just don't tour. But last years winner All the way was star driven. I wonder if curious incident will tour next season if it wins.

All The Way & Great Society

OSF sent both parts of the Lyndon Johnson play to the Seattle Rep this past winter. They played in repertory for the first time. Great Society hasn't been otherwise seen outside of Ashland, to the best of my knowledge. It could be very appealing to see both plays together. Don't know how the Seattle engagement did with the critics or at the box office, however.

All The Way and The Great Society were sold out for the entire run at Seattle Rep. They broke box office records. The reviews were very good.

Sound of Music is touring because of the movie's 50th anniversary. I'm guessing they want to cash in on recent visibility from the TV special, the big screen showing, books, etc.

I didn't realize Hedwig was touring.

dirty dancing is one of the worst shows I've ever seen

Bring Cinderella here a per dirty dancing since both have played in sac or San Jose already.

Beautiful was already here and shouldn't be part of the season.

Where is sound of music tour?

In reply to: re: Idina - Ann 04:23 pm EDT 04/28/15

She is supposed to be only doing the first 7 cities of the tour. Don't know who is doing the others.

The Sound of Music is going to be a new production interpreted by its director. Not the usual SOM as we may know it. Just how he is going to do it remains a mystery
