If a musical that is old and well known is to fly it equally has to be shaped. That is what Paulus did with the three shows you mention. I never thought much of Pippin or Hair but in her hands they were a revelation. Those efforts made me think that maybe she is the heir to Prince and Bennett, whose work has never been matched. No amount of direction can cover for material that is not well written in terms of the music, lyrics or book. I have not seen Finding yet but from the reviews and posts it seems that the writing is the central problem not the presentation.
