If you are worried about the expression only, I feel confident it will work its way out of the lexicon in much the same way it worked its way in. If you think asking about fashion is a left coast thing, it seems to me you have it backwards: New York, not LA, is the fashion capital of the country and indeed the provenance of fashion's foundational significance in New York culture is at least as strong and probably stronger than the theatre's.
