I thought that the reviewers were especially kind. Audiences are meant to revel in the first half of the show, and most of this show's audience does.

If your creative contributor friend feels misunderstood, I would like to point out that post revelation the musical and the newly understood actions of its young lovers are as clichéd, and devoid of common sense as anything preceding it.

I assume that your friend is a brilliant person (as I find most theatrical creative talents to be), but, in blaming the failure of viewers to understand its conceit for this show's apparent failure, s/he is not being realistic in evaluating what has been wrought.

We were so smart that we presented an hour or so of rancid crap so that viewers would better appreciate our brilliant twist and buffo second act, and they were too dumb to appreciate what a great idea that was.
