WHAT I DID LAST SUMMER - Super!

When Circle Rep first did this play in 1983, it was roundly panned in the NY Times, and elsewhere. I went to Signature Theatre last night, to see Jim Simpson's revival with some trepidation. Wow. What a terrific production. What a delightful, moving play. What a remarkable enselmble cast - with a special shout out to the great, one of a kind, Kristine Nielsen, as the Pig-Woman. the only mis-step in this 2 hour delight is the drummer positioned down stage right, who won't shut the f*&k up. What was Simpson thinking? In the world of his production, a foley artist would make sense. Or just sound effects. The incessant beating brushing tapping for two hours did all it could top make the show unbearable. Luckily the actors defeat this attempt by one hand of Mr Simpson to undercut and destroy their work, because they have followed his other hand which has directed a beautifully pitched production. Go! (just dont sit ANYWHERE near the drums down stage right - house left)
