There have not been that many opera singers, let alone stars, on Broadway.

Probably the biggest opera star to grace the great White Way was Ezio Pinza, in SOUTH PACIFIC. Pinza was a true international star.

Robert Weede was a good American opera singer - not a big star - who led both MOST HAPPY FELLA and MILK AND HONEY.

Irra Pettina was a noted Met Contralto, who was Tony Nominated as the Old Lady in the original CANDIDE. She also appeared in Song of Norway, Magdalena, Hit the Trail, and Anya.

Opera (And film crossover star) Helen Traubel appeared in PIPE DREAM.

Long Time Met favorite Rosalind Elias made a late career appearance in the recent FOLLIES revival.

In operetta days, a lot of American opera singers crossed over to Broadway, like Helena Bliss who was a lead in SONG OF NORWAY.

Patrica Neway was a major American opera soprano, who appeared in several musicals, most notably intoducing 'Cimb Evry Mountain in THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

I'm sure there are several others - and I may have missed a big one - though I doubt it ...
