In the comparable weekend last year, grosses for 37 shows totaled $29,244,150.
Of the new musicals:
— An American in Paris, Finding Neverland and The King and I are looking like the season’s three big hits.
— Fun Home increased its box office by over $95,812 from the prior week, while It Shoulda Been You dropped by $-97,081.
— The Visit is a disaster, grossing just $194,145 last week.
— Something Rotten! is slowly gaining ground. Box office receipts were up $84,440 last week for a weekly gross of $801,033.
— Doctor Zhivago and Gigi box office results have all the markings of shows that won’t survive.
Living on Love closed at the Longacre Theatre on Sunday after only 21 previews and 16 performances. Its cumulative grosses added up to a paltry $811,148, just 20% of potential. The average ticket was $30 (accounting for many comps).
The Heidi Chronicles closed at the Music Box on Sunday after never gaining traction as it played to half-empty houses over 27 previews and 53 performances. The $3.5 to $4 million production lost its capitalization. Cumulative grosses:$3,257,022, about 37% of potential. Average ticket price: $65.
