those numbers (like almost all numbers that are "reported" publicly-even when they come from the producer's mouth) are not accurate in any specific sense, but they usually get us in the right ballpark, which is good enough for drawing all but the most specific conclusions.

re shuttering out of town, it is not rare at all but the dynamic is different. You are mixing purely commercial tryouts with noon-profit tryouts (something that did not exist in the old days as it does today). I would say the number of shows nowadays thatare described as broadway bound and/or mounted with enhancement money is huge.

One other thing about budgets from offering papers that are not insignificant. Other than the fact that shows frequently end up above or below the projected budget, most offerings have a "mini-max" provision such that the deal can close within a range. If the show proceeds with the minimum capitalization (and The Visit seems like a show that very well may have) then some of the budget numbers (and usually the stated reserves) are going to get adjusted downward. So that means that the reserve may not have ended up at the number stated above, and there could be loans involved that (as in the case of Honeymoon) render the financial picture even more dire.
