The Score of "Honeymoon in Vegas"

Today I discovered "Only in Vegas" on my iPod - a song written in 2005 to be used promotionally in advertising "Avenue Q's" residency at the Wynn in Vegas. It surprised me to find it almost identical to JRB's "When You Say Vegas" from "Honeymoon" - both melodically and in substance matter. Both are pastiche tunes that echo the Jazz standards of Sinatra, and both wax poetic about famous Vegas tourist attractions. I find it interesting that a promotional one-off so closely mirrors a song from a score that some people on this board were surprised to see omitted from award recognition, but I think this best exemplifies why I found the show so lacking. JRB's score is lazy pastiche that has (literally) been done before and to more successful effect. After - justly - recognizing Brown for "Parade" and "Bridges," what makes people on this board think that anyone would want to validate his work on a show that sounds like it could've been written by anyone else; derivative material that simply recycles tired tropes. I tried to find an audio copy of "Only in Vegas" to link to but was unsuccessful, unfortunately.
