oh, i absolutely agree getting her insured would be a herculean task but knowing tickets will sell - as in there can be no doubt - tends to get herculean tasks accomplished.

>> Now let's pretend you are a producer. Would you pay that premium

i'm not sure exactly how to phrase this but the whole proposition relies on something like the concept of the angel. someone with zeus-like power calling in a chit or fronting the money or ... something. sorry that's as clear as i can be and i know it's as clear as mud and i know it's EXTREMELY unlikely but i also know 3 other things - tickets would fly and the sentiment (in the best sense of the word) behind a move like this with the kander/ebb/minnelli team assembled for undeniably the last time, the fact that it could be an honest to god comeback for minnelli and not the devoted pretending there's more going on than there really is (see 9/10s of the LIZA AT THE PALACE shows and the, somehow even worse, dvd) and ... and on top of that ... having THE VISIT go out not as what feels like a vanity project (sorry, it kinda does) but with a scramble for tickets - for kander and ebb to go out like that, like they deserve, i honestly believe that angel - in some form is out there and i believe it could prove too hard for him to resist.

i do believe it's a him. he's a gay man, my age or older, who remembers when liza wasn't a punchline. who has a deeper understanding than the poor folks whose only association to the name is ARTHUR and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, who remember when she ruled - and not just (but especially) the gay world, who knew, as we all did, no fred ebb = no liza, at least not that liza.

yes broadway is increasingly more about the tourists but the old guard hasn't died completely out and neither has that audience. and it's the kind of gesture (all brass balls and hail may passes) that defined that old guard.

pipe dream? yes. i fully acknowledge that - but every third blue moon in leap year even pipe dreams come true.

and tickets.would.fly.
